Hi New Baby

Baby,
I wanted to dedicate this blog to you. I hope your big brother isn't too jealous, as I did not discover this fun little place until after he was already here. I thought this would be a fun place for you to visit some day when you're older and realize just how excited and happy we are that you are on your way to be a part of our family! Let me start with how I learned you were on your way!

In April, Daddy, Maysen, and I went to California to visit Grandpa Dave and Grandma Jo for a few days. We took Maysen to Disneyland and we had a great time! About 3 weeks later, I had a dream that I was pregnant. (This happened with Maysen, too. It's weird, I know!).

I met daddy for lunch on Friday May 11 and we were generally talking about how long I would work as a nurse and in the job I was in. Daddy was saying that maybe when we got pregnant again (not planning for a few more years) that maybe then I could stay home during the pregnancy and be with Maysen, too. When I got back to work I decided "What the heck! I'll take a pregnancy test" (I work at a clinic with those available and it's always been an open thing that we can use supplies). I stood there, in the lab, and watched as the test started taking effect. I had been having irregular periods lately, so this wasn't new for me to be taking a pregnancy test. They've always came out a strong NEGATIVE. However, today was different. As the "wetness" went up the paper under the clear plastic, I noticed where there was never a pink line appearing - something was happening. I looked away thinking it was just my eyes playing tricks on me, so I cleaned the counter and looked useful. I walked back over and my eyes had not deceived me! There was a definate pink line under the (always standing alone for negative) blue line.

I could barely hold it in to my co-workers. I got off work and when daddy got home, I handed him a box. The outside said "One line for negative, Two lines for positive". He looked confused and didn't know what that meant. He opened the box and said "What's this?" Then he looked closer and said "Oh! You're pregnant?" We had decided that we were going to wait to tell people for a bit. That is, until Aunt Robin called us that weekend to wish me a Happy Mother's Day. Then she says "Well, I have a present ... I'm pregnant!" I couldn't believe it! I must have sounded strange and I blurted out "Wow! That's funny ..." She said ".... uhhh, why? ..... Oh my are you pregnant too?!!!!" So the cat was out of the bag then. Since Robin knew it was only a matter of time so we told Daddy's Family. I had already ordered a T-Shirt for Maysen to wear so I could send pictures to the family that aren't close. It said "I have a secret ...." (front) "I'm going to be a big brother!" (back). When that came I posted it on my main blog and called Auntie Jenn and Grandpa and Grandma. Everyone is so excited and we are too!

With this news and the talk daddy and I had at lunch that Friday - we both decided I would hang up my nurse's hat and stay home for a bit. Daddy was in college when Maysen was born and I had no choice but to work. But since then daddy has graduated and just got a great permanent job making websites for Real Estate Agents. I'm going to play and have fun with Maysen this summer as he is starting pre-preschool in September. Then I will be able to home with you everyday until I'm ready to go back to Nursing.

I don't have an exact due date for when you will be making your appearence because I'm only guessing (I have a pretty good idea). My first OB appointment with Dr Friedman is July 6th. So we'll know more then. But basing it off my "hunch" on when you were conceived, I am just about 9 weeks pregnant. I get weekly emails about you and your growth, and I got this one yesterday:

Hello, Leslie! You are about 9 weeks pregnant. Your baby is nearly an inch long — barely the size of a grape — and weighs just a fraction of an ounce, but he's poised for rapid weight gain now that his basic physical structure is in place. His embryonic tail is completely gone, and the development of his body parts — including organs, muscles, and nerves — is kicking into gear. His eyelids are fused shut and won't open until 27 weeks. His upper lip is fully formed, and his mouth, nose, and nostrils are more distinct. Your baby's sex organs are present now but won't be discernable as male or female for another few weeks.

I haven't been too sick with you yet. Don't get me wrong, I don't feel great, but I haven't thrown up or anything. Of course I've been really tired. I'm not sure because that's growing or you're not letting me sleep at night! I lay in bed and for the life of me cannot sleep! I generally get up feeling fine, but as the day goes on (or I eat!) I start to not feel good. That subsides with sucking on peppermint candy and sips of ice water.

I will close for now. I look forward to knowing and learning more about you with every passing day!

Love,
Momma
